From 2007 onward I was the interface designer and usability evangelist for Fritzing, the open-source application that lets designers, artists and makers move from a breadboard sketch to a finished, producible circuit board.
IRLabs is a design company that makes things and tests them on real people. We keep returning to quick prototypes, hands-on sessions and fast iterations. This is how we iterate our informed design process.
IRLabs is the studio of Dirk van Oosterbosch: designer, developer, prototype builder and teacher. I studied graphic design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and media design at the Piet Zwart Institute, which is where I started using the computer as a tool for making other tools. The work moved off the computer screen and into ubiquitous and physical computing: circuit boards, sensors, installations and apps.
I made the interface design for Fritzing, started META (Making Electronic Thingies in Amsterdam), and taught media design at ArtEZ in Arnhem.
